This has been a long extended closing. Most of you know that we were in a building project before Hurricane Irene. Hurricane Irene dumped 5 inches of flood water over all the floors. This destroyed floors, furniture, and created a damp atmosphere in the library. The clean up has been extensive. It involved chemical treatments, drying, removal, and replacement of wet carpeting and tile. It also involved the removal and replacement of thousands of items in the collection.
The slow down now is having wiring for lights, phones, data lines, and many other sources which use electric replaced, installed, and inspected. The library is not safe until this work is completed.
We are making a
desperate attempt to re-open for basic service within the next few
weeks. We are open each day from 8 AM to 12 PM Monday through Friday
and 4:30 to 7:30 PM Tuesday through Thursday to service patrons who are
seeking new library cards. Your library card will be accepted at all 74
BCCLS libraries. Our nearest neighbors are
